Patination is the final process to complete the bronze sculpture. It is the method used to colour the bronze. Oxides are applied with heat to the metal surface to give the surface an aged look.

A wide variety of colours and textural effects can be achieved. It is also possible for the patinator to match samples provided by the customer. Wax or lacquer is then applied to seal the surface and to stop further oxidizing from occurring.
